- Coaches look for athletes that have a good work ethic. Being a student is a demanding and challenging task, but when sports are brought into the equation, it can seem impossible at times. Athletes that have a never give up attitude, a drive that is unmatched by any other, and is always going the extra mile to be better are a sought after commodity of coaches. Never give up, and always keep pushing yourself to be better.
- The ability to work well with others is another important quality that is looked for. All sports require teamwork. Even if it is a sport such as boxing. The boxer still has a team in place to help him, or her, prepare for their fight. Student-athletes that always put the team first are looked for because having good leadership is an important aspect of any sport.
- Respect is often overlooked in modern society. However, it is a highly sought after quality of student-athletes by coaches. Students should not only have respect for their elders and their coaches, they should have respect for themselves, teammates, and all living things in general. Respect is earned on the playing field, and in the world. It shows coaches that the athlete has a good foundation to build from.
- Desire is a quality that can not be taught, but it is looked for. Having a desire to win, striving to do and be better, and always trying your hardest will carry over into other areas of your life as well. Coaches need people on the team that are never going to give up on themselves, their teammates, or anyone. This strong desire will push them to be better, and will make them a better all around person. That is why it is so highly looked for by coaches.
